Productive Dorset Sheep
Twin Maple Farms
Alberda 265 is sired by K bar K 7132 and was born on pasture in May 2012 and raised on forage until weaning. He was used on a couple of ewes as a ram lamb and will be used during the 2013 breeding season. He is QR at codon 171. He was sold in 2014 to another flock.
Meeuwse 508 was sired by a Jeff Hunter ram and produced offspring who did well on a forage based diet.
MSU 723 (the middle ram) was purchased from Michigan State University as a ram lamb. He had exceptional growth and Milk EBV's, but developed into a ram with a little too much frame for our taste. We used him for for a couple breeding seasons, and retained many of his daughters, before selling him to another flock.
Virginia Tech G045 was purchased from Michigan State University in one of their production sales. This ram had tremendous EBVs and was QR at codon 171. Unfortunately he was killed by other rams after being used by us for one year.
Alberda 034 (on the right) and Alberda 019 (not pictured) are both VT G045 sons and were used in our flock over two lambing seasons before being sold to other flocks. 034 was QR and 019 was RR at codon 171.
(K Bar K 7132 is on the left, and Meeuwse 0914 is in the middle)
Meeuwse 0914 is an extremely thick ram with great breed character. His ewe lambs are moderate in size and are showing themselves to be great mothers who do well lambing and raising lambs on pasture. He is sired by K Bar K 7045 and is RR at Codon 171. He will be used by us again in 2014.
We traded for the Triplet born K bar K 8029 from Lesperance farm in 2013. He brought some unrelated K Bar K genetics to our flock with good and balanced EBV's and is RR at Codon 171. He was used for only one year and we will be keeping some ewe lambs, as well as a ram out of him to be used as a flock sire.
We purchased K Bar K 7132 in 2008 and have been pleased with his performance as well as his daughters. He brought excellent growth and carcass EBVs and has produced daughters with exceptional udders and who do well lambing on pasture. His last crop of lambs was born in the spring of 2013, but fortunately we have many daughters and granddaughters in our flock. He was QR at codon 171 and was sired by a Carson ram.
Carson 1479 was the sire of our foundation Dorset ewes
